Yizkor Book Project news

Lance Ackerfeld is JewishGen’s Yizkor Book project manager. He’s just informed the Jewish genealogy community about the most recent updates and newly-added books. Some 506 books, along with 900 entries for communities without their own dedicated Yizkor books, are now online.

August updates of existing books and new books include:

Poland: Updates: Bielsk-Podlaski, Chelm, Czyzew, Dabrowa Gornicza, Kaluszyn, Katowice, Kolo, Kutno, -Miedzyrzec Podlaski, and Strzemieszyce Wielkie. New: Baranów Sandomierski, Chorzele, Golub-Dobrzyń, Sierpc.

Belarus: New: Byten, Lakhva.

Lithuania: Updates: Dusetos, Svencionys,.

Moldova: Updates: Tighina (Bendery)

Ukraine: New: Dobromil

Slovakia: New: Komárno

Jewish Music in Poland between the World Wars: Updated.

Most entries are from the Encyclopedias of Jewish Communities (Pinkasei Hakehillot) which offer historical information on all the communities, regardless of size.

If your family’s ancestral community doesn’t appear in a Yizkor book, Ackerfeld suggests that you consider preparing a translation of the community’s encyclopedia entry, or hiring a professional translator to do it.
